To the north of Puerto Vallarta lies the state
of Nayarit, the mystical place that bore the missionaries that
settled San Francisco and San Diego. It is the home of the
Cora and Huichol tribes, who still live today much as they have
for thousands of years.
After a panoramic drive up the North coast of Banderas
Bay, and high up into the Sierra Madre, we'll pass the town
of Campostela, on our way to Tepic, the capital city of this
scenic wonderland. We'll arrive at the small Huichol
village of Nueva Valey, where 130 natives still live in
their traditional way. We'll enjoy a welcome ceremony,
traditional costumes and dances, shopping for authentic and
highly-regarded Huichol handcrafts, and immerse ourselves in
the native culture.
Then it's off to the magnificent town
square of Tepic to enjoy a 3-course lunch at a scenic hotel
restaurant, before heading back to Nuevo Vallarta.
