This is a magical adventure, for big and little
kids alike. The Bay of Banderas is home every year to thousands
of Olive Ridley Turtles that were born here, and return to lay
their eggs. The survival rate, due to natural predators,
including humans, is very low. On Flamingos Beach in Nuevo
Vallarta, there is a turtle farm, dedicated to the harvesting,
hatching, and releasing of the baby sea turtles.
We begin with a lecture and video on these
marvelous sea turtles, and then we patrol and search the beach
for hidden eggs. Tracks in the sand left by the nesting
mothers the night before leave us unmistakable clues to follow.
We are then ready to release the hatchlings
that have been being cared for in the nursery.
