22 nautical miles off the coast of Puerto
Vallarta lies the most widely celebrated dive site in the Nuevo
Vallarta area - the Marietas Islands National Marine Preserve.
Discovered and made famous by Jacques Cousteau in the 1970s, the
Marietas Islands are home to many rare species of birds,
including the Blue Footed Booby, and feature several large caves
that are exciting for divers.
In between dives, you can relax on Playa
del Amor (Lovers Beach), a hidden and seldom visited stretch
of sand on the islands. Some of the exciting sea life to
be found in the protected waters of the islands are sea horses,
octopus, dolphins, manta rays, spotted eagle rays, sea turtles,
and of course many tropical fish.
Islas Las Marietas Scuba Diving Highlights
 Dives for
beginning and advanced divers, from 15 to 90 feet in depth.
From the boat, you
may spot manta rays, sea turtles, dolphins, or even
humpback whales!
Explore a
series of giant underwater caves!
The islands are home
to the most cleaning stations in Banderas Bay, making it a regular
home for giant manta rays, up to 14 feet across!
